  1. Remember you are on the same team. Embrace a "we" mindset instead of a "me" mindset.
  2. Evaluate how much this current challenge will matter in 6 days, 6 months and 1 year from now.
  3. Take a breath and rephrase what your loved one tells you. Have your partner take a breath and rephrase what you tell her/him to understand each other better.
  4. Visualize being together in the future during the disagreement.
  5. Remember your loved one is not the problem, the problem is the challenge you face together.
